The integration of the percussion from Ruth Underwood and theīrass instruments makes the sound from Frank Zappa very vivid but also very complex and The guitarplay from Frank Zappa is so distinctive: flowing, fiery and biting with the use of Live double album is not progressive rock in the tradition of the symphonic rock dinosaursīut it is genuine progressive rock: a dynamic and captivating mix of jazz, rock and classic. And imagine that drummer Chester Thompson (soon with Jean-Luc Ponty) was yearsĪway from his later work with Genesis and Steve Hackett! This 2-LP was the presence of musicians like Georg Duke, known for his amazing Minimoog That it was time to buy something from this unique personality. Had heard good stories about Frank Zappa his music, at that moment in Paris I decided Store with prices that matched with the luxurous atmoshpere in that era. In the early Eighties I bought this 2-LP on the famous Champes Elysees in Paris, in a record Posted Tuesday, | Review this album | Report (Review #29927) I haven't heardĪpostrophe yet, so I can't speak to that, but I'd certainly recommend this over One THE MOTHERS (i.e., the mid-'70s Mothers), I'd rank Roxy right below it. Performance is as clean as "studio" albums like One Size Fits All.Īlthough Over-Nite Sensation is the best way to get acquainted with this version of Material is new (Freak Out's "More Trouble Every Day" earns a fiery reprise) and the Still, "Roxy & Elsewhere" is no mere live placeholder 90% of the Not all of Roxy is top-shelf stuff "Dummy Up" is a forgettable pokeĪt "higher" education and "Son of Orange County" is cute but could have been moreįully developed. Posted Tuesday, Ap| Review this album | Report (Review #29925) After the jazzy Grand Wazoo album, Zappa made 5 records between 19, and this one is the most instrumental and jazz/fusion by far! "Cheepnis" is an absolutely addictive track, very catchy, rhythm changing, complex and fast! The consecutive "Echidna's Arf" and "Don't You Ever Wash That Thing?" demonstrate a great mastering of the challenging synchronization of instrumentation those tracks have very complex and fast fusion patterns Ruth Underwood's percussions are outstanding! Zappa does not miss to play some impossible guitar solos. "Be-Bop Tango" is a 16 minutes tracks where Zappa invites some people in the audience to dance while George Duke scats and plays a solo at the same time this track also contains an outstanding trombone solo, plus "impossible to play" xylophone-drums-bass-trumpet combination. The record has many fast and complex instrumental parts. That's entertainment! This double LP record has been recorded live, and Frank Zappa plays the role of an entertainer on it! There are many parts where just a light background music gives an atmosphere to the conversations and to Zappa's oral presentations. Land-based aquaponic fisheries like Brooklyn-based Edenworks combine the farming of fish and vegetables. Oyster, seaweed, scallop, and mussel regenerative vertical farms, like Greenwave, serve up food while functioning as underwater filtration systems and habitats for other species. Plant-based eating is a part of the solution, but so is innovation in how we procure fish and seafood.įish farming has also graduated to regenerative techniques that put back into the ocean the stuff we’ve been stripping out of it for millennia. With the state of overfishing of wild stocks and poor aquaculture techniques, pulling stuff from the sea is seen as just as unsustainable as raising cows and pigs. This New Ag isn’t confined to soil tilling. And then there’s Biodynamic®, which will certify a whole farm as a “living organism,” a type of complete ecosystem. by crop rotation), animal welfare (grass-fed, pasture-raised), and social fairness (living wages, fair prices). The risk is that by the time farmers transition to organic, there will be something newer and more progressive to strive for, such as regenerative organic, farming that addresses soil health (i.e. To offset the costs and time associated with converting from conventional to organic farming, certification agencies like QAI are offering a Transitional Certified stamp which lets companies like Kashi tell the story of how they’re supporting farmers who are transitioning over. We’re not even there yet! Less than one percent of American farmland is organic. So, what’s next?įirst of all, let’s be honest about organic. The organic movement has fueled agricultural innovation in CPG for almost a decade. Old brands and product lines are being rebirthed with a wholesome better-for-you halo. These days you can find organic Doritos from Pepsico and organic Hellman’s mayonnaise from Unilever. In fact, it was formulated to match beef in terms of fat, protein, and everything else, including how it feels in your mouth (indulgent) and belly (very satiating) an hour after you’ve eaten it. The uber successful Impossible burger is not for the faint of heart or dainty vegan eater. Think house-smoked “pastrami” made from seitan, with creamy non-dairy 1000 island dressing, sauerkraut, and non-dairy cheese, served on crispy olive oil-grilled bread. Today’s meat- and dairy-free meals can be full-flavored, full-fat, full-sodium and full of flavor and craveability. If you still think vegetarian food is a sacrifice, you’ve not had it lately at the right places. Then there’s the entire restaurant scene, where chefs are doing their part to make craveable, “plantdulgent” (my word!) menu items to introduce consumers to veg-forward eating. After years of research and development, protein suppliers have improved the efficiency, functionality, and flavor of plant-based proteins like pea, garbanzo, mung bean, and more. There’s an art to making ingredients like soy, peas, cashews, and almonds taste like milk (or cheese or meat or chicken), and the technology behind plant-based flavors is improving rapidly.īack in the early days of plant-based mayo, we were working with pea protein that wasn’t, um, exactly delicious. If you’ve consumed plant-based products like burgers or milks, you’ve likely ingested a natural flavor from a supplier like Edlong, who specializes in non-dairy dairy flavors. The Good Food Institute is another nonprofit with a mission to further the causes of plant-based and cell-based foods by promoting education, research, and entrepreneurship in these areas. The Plant Based Foods Association is a nonprofit whose goal is to level the playing field between meat, dairy and their plant-based alternatives. This behind-the-scenes support system will enable the exponential growth of plant-based eating in 2019 and beyond.Īfter trying to compete against the all-powerful dairy and cattle commodity boards, plant based foods now have their own. We call them flexitarians and their behavior is driving a burgeoning plant-based ecosystem. The Sprouting Plant-Based EcoSystemĪ growing ⅓ of the population is choosing to actively eat less beef, pork, dairy, and poultry. But the dream of automation is powerful enough to drive early innovation in fast and fast casual restaurants. The idea of a robot (or 12) in every restaurant means a capital investment in each location, which is hard to justify, especially in franchised systems. The CPG products mentioned above are made in centralized factories, then distributed to the rest of the country. The big question is how to scale these businesses. And in a beautiful display of how automated restaurants can deliver technology without sacrificing design, San Francisco’s Creator turns burger flipping into performance art. As a rule, this foam doesn’t conform as closely to your shape and springs back to its original form more rapidly than memory foam. In most cases, wedge pillows are made from polyfoam, also known as polyurethane foam. Many wedge pillows feature a few inches of memory foam on top of the support foam to alleviate pressure points, but some are made entirely of memory foam. This adaptable cushiness makes it ideal for relieving pressure in this way. Memory foam reacts to the body’s pressure and heat to adjust closely to the body’s shape. Different Types of Wedge Pillows Memory foam Those who intend to use wedge pillows nightly should choose one made from high-quality materials to ensure that it retains its shape. Quality materialĪ pillow’s longevity depends on what’s used to construct it. Although price is not the only indicator of quality, it can show that the pillow is made of long-lasting materials if it costs more. PriceĪn excellent wedge pillow will typically cost between $50 and $100. The pressure on the lower back can be relieved by placing a wedge pillow under the knees, and the pressure on the shoulder and neck can be relieved by placing a pillow under the upper body. How much pressure relief a sleeper gets from a wedge pillow can also be affected by where the pillow is placed. Memory foam, which can be used to make such pillows, is well-known for its ability to mold around the contours of the body to provide outstanding pressure relief. Using a wedge pillow can provide much-needed relief to pressure areas all over the body. It’s possible that side sleepers would feel more at ease with a medium-firm wedge pillow, while those who sleep on their backs would likely favor a firmer one. As a result, the pillow may keep its form throughout the night, keeping the sleeper’s head and neck in a comfortable and healthful position. Since most wedge pillows are molded from a single piece of foam, they tend to be on the firm side of the spectrum. Pillows with more weight tend to stay put on the bed, but those with less weight can be moved around more easily. The construction of a wedge pillow will affect its overall weight. Others are completely flat on both sides. The neck and shoulders, in particular, can benefit from the specialized contouring of some wedge pillows. Though all wedge pillows are easily recognizable thanks to their shape, size and build can vary greatly. Those looking for a pillow to use while sitting up in bed may want to consider one with a steeper angle. People who sleep with a wedge pillow between their legs and knees, typically favor a shallower angle. InclineĪ typical wedge pillow has a height of between 30 and 45 degrees, or 6 and 12 inches. Smaller wedge pillows may be suitable for those who sleep on a twin or full bed, while those who use a king or queen mattress will have more options available to them. When looking for a wedge pillow, remember that it may be larger than a regular pillow and may not fit on a standard bed. These unique pillows are designed to keep heads and shoulders slightly elevated while sleeping. Wedge pillows typically range in size from 20 to 24 inches in length and width, with the height dictating the incline. What To Consider When Buying a Wedge Pillow Size There are a lot of different wedge pillows out there, so here are some things to consider before making a purchase. Due to the diagonal position of the pillow and gravity, it is less likely for the acid to reach the esophagus, hence providing comfort and better sleep.” Not only are wedge pillows helpful for a wide range of medical issues, but they’re also commonly used as a means of unwinding in bed with a good book or show. Clark says, “t his triangular pillow elevates the head and shoulders and prevents the acid from going up. For example, according to Brian Clark BSN, MSNA, the founder of United Medical Education, they can address acid reflux. Wedge pillows can be used to prop up either the upper or lower half of the body, which can address some common medical issues. That is why when purchasing a wedge pillow you should keep their requirements in mind. Since every sleeper is different, so are their needs. There are products available to deter adult beetles getting into pots and traps for them so I am going to try all and see how I get on. I much prefer organic solutions, if possible, and nematodes can be used in the greenhouse all year round if the temperature of the soil is above 5 oC and out in the garden in summer. The perennial problem of vine weevil is one I have not been able to conquer so I am going to order some nematodes as chemicals have failed. The temperature has to be above 10 oC so they will not work yet, but at the first signs of these awful pests I will be putting in an order. The adjustable nature of architect lamps makes them popular for a wide range of household uses. This clamp is typically the same color as the rest of the lamp to make sure it better blends with the surrounding décor. This keeps your workspace clear for you to spread your work out, while also giving you the freedom to place it where you want it. Today’s architect lamps often attach to your desk or table using a clamp rather than having a base they set on. Instead, they may be a simple, solid color. You usually won’t find them as decorative as other lamp types. While they all feature that long arm, they tend to be built more for function than looks. The overall look of an architect lamp also sets it apart from others. For that reason, you’ll find the materials are more durable than you might typically find with a lamp. While all lamps are built to burn for hours, architect lamps were traditionally built with the understanding that they need to be able to comfortably burn for hours at a time. With some architect lamps, the shade is wider, while others keep it more in a circular design.Īnother important feature of architect lamps is their burning time. They have a lampshade that helps control the direction of the light, and the shade can vary in size. It has both a head and arm that swivels, letting you control not only the height but also the direction of the light. The most notable feature of an architect lamp is its adjustability. Today, architect lamps can be found on desks and other workspaces, providing easy-to-control lighting for a variety of functions. Technology moved that work to computer software, but the usefulness of architect lamps ensured they remained relevant. At one time, architects spent hours at a drafting table, drawing up blueprints on projects. |
